Procurement and Commissioning Strategy: public consultation

Strategy adoption timeline

The timeline below shows the lifecycle of this project, including the current (active) stage and those already completed, as well as expected future stages and timings, if the Strategy is approved and goes ahead to adoption as council policy.

  1. Internal consultation on the draft Strategy

    Complete Stage completed: May 2021

We carried out internal consultation in May 2021, to gather opinions and sense check the draft Strategy. We consulted across a wide range of services and council teams. We took this feedback on board. We amended some elements of the draft Strategy because of the responses. We will incorporate other feedback points in the action plans to implement the Strategy.

  2. External stakeholder sessions

    Complete Stage completed: September 2021

We held three external, online sessions with the Bath & North East Somerset business community.  We held these sessions because we want Bath & North East Somerset to be net zero by 2030. In order for our existing and potential suppliers to help us meet this target, we needed to speak to businesses about our plans to understand how it could affect them and, equally importantly, for us to understand their aspirations. The feedback will also contribute to the business engagement sessions we will hold over the coming twelve months.

  3. B&NES Cabinet discussion

Complete Stage completed: 9 September 2021

The draft strategy and accompanying report were discussed at the Bath & North East Somerset Cabinet meeting on 9 September 2021 where it was approved with no objections. Following the mandatory five-day call in period the draft become the new Bath & North East Somerset Procurement & Commissioning Strategy: Think Climate, Think Local, Think Innovation. Procurement and commissioning should now be carried out in accordance with this Strategy.

  4. Public consultation

    Active 6 October to 27 November 2021

The public consultation will be open for existing and potential suppliers and members of the general public to read and comment on details of the proposed Procurement and Commissioning Strategy.

  5. Feedback report

    On target Winter 2021

The feedback report will be issued six weeks after the close of the public consultation.

  6. Development of guidance

    On target Winter 2021-Spring 2022

There are areas of the Strategy which will need guidance, both for our officers and for suppliers and potential suppliers. The responses from internal consultation and this public consultation will help us develop the guidance and which elements to focus on as a priority. Guidance will be available on our website. We will also run targeted online engagement sessions to support our partners in meeting Strategy requirements.
