Council Tax annual billing

We are currently processing annual council tax bills for all residents. This is an extremely busy time of year. You may experience longer wait times than normal if you are telephoning, or a delay if contacting us by email. You don’t need to send duplicate enquiries. We’ll respond to you as quickly as possible. You can complete many of our services online. Please expand the sections below for further information.

View your Council Tax bill and set up a Direct Debit

You will need to register for an online account to view your bill. If you have been unable to register for an online account successfully please use our online contact form to report the problem.

If you have forgotten your user name or password please reset them to access your account. If you have difficulty resetting your password then you may need to reregister using a different user name. To do this you can manage your account online.

You can also set up a Direct Debit online and select the number of payment instalments you would prefer (10 or 12). Find out more on our web page.

Council Tax bill amount to be paid

As part of our preparation for annual billing we aim to process any changes and applications received before 22 February 2024. If you have notified us of a change, or made an application after this date, you will receive a revised bill after 18 March 2024.

If you have a question on how your Council Tax Bill is calculated and how the money is allocated and spent, please read our Council Tax Guide for further information.

Long term empty properties (between 1 and 2 years)

Following a recent change in legislation and subsequent decision by Council Members, from 1 April 2024 properties that have stood empty for one year will now attract a premium charge of 100%. We recently sent correspondence to households that are likely to be affected by this change. If you have recently contacted us regarding this, some amendments may not yet be reflected in your annual bill. If the premium charge is still showing on your bill incorrectly, we will update our records as soon as possible and issue an amended bill.

Local Council Tax Support

The Local Council Tax Support scheme for 2024/25 has undergone some changes. Changes to recycling centres

From 4 March 2024, anyone visiting a recycling centre to dispose of bags of general waste may be required to sort the bag on site to ensure all recyclable materials are removed and placed in the correct containers.

From 4 March 2024 there will be new limits on the amount of building materials (soil, rubble, ceramics, and plasterboard) that you can bring to our recycling centres. You can bring two 50-litre bags, or one bulky item (e.g. bathtub / basin / toilet), each time you visit, with maximum of four visits in a 4 week period.

Replacement wheeled black bins

From Monday 1 April 2024, you will need to pay £22.40 for a replacement wheelie bin for your rubbish if it is lost or stolen.

Please note that the charge for replacement wheeled black bins was agreed in our budget for 2022 to 2023 to help offset the purchase and delivery costs associated with providing a replacement stolen bin.
