Garden waste sacks

Sack collections will take place on your normal garden waste collection day. However, the booking system will help ensure the crews are aware of your request.

We cannot return for missed collections that have not been booked, and we will only collect Council-branded sacks purchased for the service.

The booking system has been introduced to minimise unnecessary journeys, save resources and money. This will help to protect other essential council services and help to tackle the Climate Emergency.

If we miss your garden waste collection

If you booked a garden waste sack collection and our crews missed it, you can report a missed collection. Please note we won’t send crews back for sacks or trees that weren’t booked in for collection.

Where to leave your garden waste sacks for collection

Please put garden waste sacks out at the front edge of your property, where they can be seen easily by our crews, from 6am on your collection day.

Request help putting your garden waste out for collection

We offer an assisted collection for residents that need help with their collections. We can only collect containers and sacks from agreed locations which have good access. Please note, we cannot enter residents’ properties.

Collection days and block booking

You can book a collection online before your scheduled garden waste collection. Scheduled collection days fall on the alternate week to your household rubbish collection. When you make a booking, you will automatically be booked onto the next available scheduled collection day. If you want to block book collections, you can choose up to 4 dates at a time.

What happens next

When we collect your garden waste, it is taken to be composted in open rows. The material is shredded and turned regularly to achieve a high composting standard (PAS100). The compost is used on a network of local farms.

Why you need to book your collection

We are improving the way we collect garden waste. Instead of sending our trucks to every road in the district, we are using new technology to only send them to properties with subscription garden waste bins and those with booked in garden waste sacks for collection. This will help make our service more efficient, saving time and resources.
