Apply for the Community contribution fund 2021 - 2022

This is a pilot scheme that offers residents the chance to pay into a good causes fund to help local charity, community and voluntary groups to reduce inequalities in the area.

Since April 2021, local residents have been generously donating and by 1 October, the fund total had reached £25,094.55.  The council has now opened the fund for applications.

Who can apply for funding?

Any charity, voluntary or community organisation that supports residents of Bath and North East Somerset and is not for profit can apply.  Applicants must have a constitution and valid bank account or nominate a qualifying organisation to receive a grant on their behalf.

How much funding can organisations apply for?

Grants of between £500 and £2,000 are available.  Organisations will only be able to apply once in the 2021-22 financial year.

What are the criteria for the fund?

The aim of the fund is to help reduce inequalities by investing in local projects that improve people's lives, focusing on those who are most disadvantaged.  This may relate, for example, to protected characteristics; finances; locality; education or health and wellbeing.

All applications must support residents in Bath and North East Somerset.  Priority will be given to projects that cover the whole BANES area but applications relating to local projects may still apply.  All applications must:

  • evidence need and demonstrate how inequalities will be addressed
  • evidence community support for the project
  • deliver benefits within two years of the funding being awarded
  • include details of any consents required (eg planning/licencing)

Grants are not available for:

  • Individuals
  • Medical research
  • Political groups or activities promoting political beliefs
  • Promotion of any religion, faith or belief
  • Completed projects

The deadline for applications is 30 November 2021.  Before starting this application, you will need the following information:

Next steps

Applications will be assessed against the fund’s criteria and recommendations made to a panel of elected councillors who will decide on the allocation of funds.  You may be asked to submit further information to support your application such as a copy of your constitution or evidence of community support.

You will be notified of the panel’s decision by no later than the 31 January 2022.
