Find a cemetery or burial ground in B&NES

Use this page to find a council-maintained cemetery or burial ground in Bath and North East Somerset. We maintain two open cemeteries (which have space for new graves) and a large number of burial grounds or churchyards which are now closed, or full, but can still be visited.

There are many more churchyards and places of worship within our region which are not maintained by us. To find a more complete list, explore B&NES on the Find a church website, or download the GOV.UK list of places of worship. You may also want to look at our page on how to access cemetery records, if you are trying to find a grave or doing genealogical research.

Open cemeteries

Our open cemeteries are Haycombe, in Bath, and Harptree in the Chew Valley. The Harptree Cemetery is mainly used by the communities in nearby villages, while Haycombe offers a wide range of services for burials, cremations and memorials to all B&NES residents and people with a connection to the local area.

Closed cemeteries and churchyards

Cemeteries and churchyards are officially closed when there is no more space to dig new graves within them. However, it may still be possible for the full burial, or interment of cremation ashes, of family members in a pre-existing grave plot.

View our page on cemetery and churchyard maintenance and memorial safety, to learn about how we look after the grounds of these cemeteries and churchyards, and find out who to contact with a maintenance or safety issue.
