Consultation on changes to Council Tax Support

The Local Council Tax Support (LCTS) scheme exists to help households on a lower income with the cost of their Council Tax. Depending on the amount of money you have coming in, Council Tax Support could reduce your bill by up to 90%.

We are proposing to make changes to the LCTS scheme for claimants who receive Universal Credit. Use these pages to:

  • compare our proposals with how the LCTS scheme currently works
  • find out how the changes may affect your household
  • have your say on how you would like us to proceed with the project

If we decide to make the changes, they will take effect from April 2024. The changes will only affect households who receive Universal Credit. The current rules will apply for all other households who are receiving Council Tax Support.
