The Local Plan will set out our long-term perspective on local development, and will include the following:
- a strategy to guide development
- site allocations for planned development (including major strategic development locations and smaller sites)
- district-wide Development Management policies (which will help to determine planning applications)
We started development of our Local Plan in 2018, as part of the wider West of England Joint Spatial Plan, a shared strategic plan for the local authorities which make up WECA (The West of England Combined Authority: B&NES, Bristol and South Gloucestershire). However, The Joint Spatial Plan was halted at the Examination stage, and the Plan was withdrawn in January 2020.
As a result, we launched a revised timetable for updating the current Local Plan, and associated planning documents. We held a public consultation on the Local Plan Partial update from April to June 2020. View the consultation documents and public feedback.
Following this, the Options Consultation (which ran from 7 January to 18 February) invited you to comment on a number of policy options that we are considering. View the consultation documents and public feedback.
A formal public consultation is now being held on the Draft Local Plan Partial Update and associated Supplementary Planning Documents

Please note that the documents below are the 2016-2036 Local Plan, which is no longer being progressed (see reasons above) and not the proposed partial update which we are currently consulting on. See current Local Plan Partial Update documents and consultations.
