We are the licensing authority for the storage and sale of petroleum spirit in Bath and North East Somerset. Petroleum spirit is licensed to ensure that those keeping and dispensing it are doing so safely, without risk to themselves, the public or the environment.
Petroleum spirit covers any product of crude petroleum with a flashpoint below 21°C: This includes petrol, benzene, pentane and any mixture containing these flashpoints, but does not include white spirit, paraffin, diesel oil or fuel oils.
A petroleum storage certificate will allow you to keep an approved quantity of petroleum. It is an offence to keep any more than the approved amount. It is also an offence to fail to comply with any of the licence conditions or keep licensable quantities of petroleum spirit without a certificate.

Transportation
Aside from what's in your fuel tank, you can only transport petrol in securely closed containers designed for the purpose, marked PETROLEUM SPIRIT and HIGHLY FLAMMABLE. You must make sure these are secured when being transported.
