Clamping and vehicle removal

If the council clamps your vehicle

If we clamp your car, we will also issue a fine notice (also known as a Penalty Charge Notice, or PCN). You will need to pay the fine, plus a clamp removal fee of £40, at one of our Information and Advice Services.

To pay your fine, you will need to provide the following documents:

  • personal identification (your driving licence or passport)
  • proof of vehicle ownership (V5 registration document)
  • a valid certificate of motor insurance
  • proof of your address, such as a utility bill issued within the last three months

If the council tows your vehicle

The council will notify the police if we have removed your vehicle. You will need to contact the council’s removal contractor, Hinton Rescue, on 01225 448025, to get your vehicle released and arrange collection.

To release your vehicle, you will need to provide the following documents:

  • personal identification (your driving licence or passport)
  • proof of vehicle ownership (V5 registration document)
  • a valid certificate of motor insurance
  • proof of address, such as a utility bill issued within the last three months

How to appeal

If you think you have been clamped or towed in error, or have mitigating circumstances that you want to tell us about, you can challenge the fine.

You can do this by contacting our Parking Services team within 28 days of the date the fine was issued. Please put your challenge in writing, either online or by post. You will need to clearly state the reasons why you want to challenge the clamping or removal, and to include the following information:

  • The Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) number (for example: BN12345678)
  • Your vehicle registration number

If you need help to make your challenge, you can call 01225 477133 or visit an Information and Advice Service.

If we reject your challenge

If we cannot accept your challenge, we will inform you of this by letter. The letter will tell you how you can appeal the decision. If you choose to appeal, the Traffic Penalty Tribunal will handle your case, and their decision will be final.
