Order a replacement for lost or stolen wheelie bins

Replacement wheeled black bins

From Monday 1 April 2024, you will need to pay £22.40 for a replacement wheelie bin for your rubbish if it is lost or stolen.

Please note that the charge for replacement wheeled black bins was agreed in our budget for 2022 to 2023 to help offset the purchase and delivery costs associated with providing a replacement stolen bin.

From Monday 2 October 2023, you will need to pay £20.93 for a replacement wheelie bin for your rubbish if it is lost or stolen. This charge covers the cost of the bin and delivery of the replacement bin.

The charge for replacement wheeled black bins was agreed in the our budget for 2022 to 2023 to help offset the purchase and delivery costs associated with providing a replacement stolen bin.

If you do not have a council wheelie bin, we will not be able to collect your waste. If you do not wish to pay for a replacement wheelie bin, you can dispose of your waste at a household waste recycling centre.

When this charge applies

You will need to order and pay for a replacement wheelie bin if either of the following apply:

• Your wheelie bin is lost or stolen
• You have moved house and the property does not have a wheelie bin

You do not need to pay for a replacement if:

• Your wheelie bin has been damaged
• You have moved house into a new build home

If your wheelie bin has fallen into the back of a waste collection vehicle

If your wheelie bin has gone into the back of a waste collection vehicle, we will replace it free of charge. The waste collection teams record the details of any such incidents. Please do not report an incident of this nature until the end of the day, to allow our team to log it on our system. Please contact Council Connect to arrange a free replacement. However, if Council Connect staff are unable to verify this type of incident from Waste Team systems, we will have to charge you for a replacement bin.

Moving home

If you are moving home, you must leave your rubbish bin or reusable rubbish bag at your old home. The container provided for your rubbish collection is allocated to your property, not to you individually.

Order and pay for your replacement wheelie bin

You can order and pay for your lost or stolen wheelie bin using a debit or credit card. Unfortunately we do not accept American Express.

What happens next

Once you have placed your order for a replacement wheelie bin:

• We will leave your replacement bin at the front of your property, away from the road if possible.
• Please ensure that you clearly number your replacement bin, to help the crews identify who it belongs to.

Prevent wheelie bin loss or theft in the future

There are several things you can do to help prevent this occurring again in the future:

• Clearly label your bin to identify it as belonging to your property.
• Bring your bin back in as soon as possible after collections.
• Check that with your neighbours to be sure no-one has accidentally taken your bin, or that it has not been left on their property by mistake.
