Investing in Spaces and Places Grants

Grants of between £5,000 and £25,000 are available for grassroots charitable organisations across the UK to improve community spaces which will make a lasting difference to local communities.

The ASDA Foundation’s Investing in Places and Spaces Grant Programme is designed to enable small, local grassroots community organisations with an annual income of under £250,000 to improve community spaces which will make a long-term difference to local communities across the United Kingdom.  Projects should be in areas where the supermarket and retailer ASDA has a presence.  Applications must be submitted to a Community Champion from an Asda superstore (the Foundation does not accept applications directly from community organisations).

Applications should include at least one of the following:

  • Building improvements or development: to enhance an existing space for more people to use the facility.  For example, a new kitchen, improving toilet facilities, extension on a building, new flooring, developing an unused internal space, improving disabled access and facilities, security features to keep the space and place secure, creating a tech hub and enhancing technological capabilities.
  • Building repairs: the space may need upgrading or replacement.  For example, roof repairs, doors and windows repairs/replacement, central heating replacement, electrical wiring upgrade, plumbing repairs/replacement, and/or
  • Outdoor Improvement or development: access to green space will improve mental wellbeing and reduce social isolation.  For example, play area development/upgrading safety features, community gardens, transforming wasteland into usable space, allotment space.

Grants of between £5,000 and £25,000 are available to cover materials, tradespeople and equipment costs.

Please note that there is a matched funding requirement for this programme.  Applicants will be expected to contribute at least 50% of the total project cost from their own or other sources.

Eligible applicants must either:

  • Own and have full responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of the building/space, or
  • Lease and have full responsibility for upkeep and maintenance with at least 10 years remaining.

The application window opens on Tuesday 9 July and will close to applications on Sunday 28 July 2024.

Application forms can be obtained from ASDA Community Champions, who are based in local Asda superstores.
