Eat It Up Fund 2024-26

Six one-off revenue and capital grants of up to £60,000 are available to a wide range of UK organisations, including registered charities, Community Interest Companies, local authorities and schools, for innovative food waste projects in the UK that have the ability to scale up.  Partnership applications are welcomed.

Following a successful launch of the Eat it Up Fund in 2023, the programme is available in 2024 to support innovative ideas to tackle food waste in the UK.  The scheme is a partnership grant programme from the Hubbub Foundation UK and speciality coffee business, Starbucks, which has 32,000 retail outlets in 80 countries across the world.

The Fund, which is particularly aimed at early-stage food waste project with potential for impact at scale, will provide one-off grants for projects that offer innovative solutions to the following challenges.

  • Address pre-farmgate waste.
  • Find creative ways to use surplus food in communities or at home.
  • Minimise food waste from retailers, and/or
  • Prevent food from being wasted at the manufacturing and processing stage.

Revenue and capital grants of up to £60,000 are available (an increase from £40,000 in 2023).  Grants must be used within 12 months of confirmation of an award.  Awards can support ideas that are ready to test, or concepts that have been tested and are ready to progress further.

Grants can be used for capital expenditure, salaries, and marketing and promotion. Grants cannot be used to cover core operational costs.

There is a 2-stage application process for the Fund, as follows:

Expressions of Interest must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 14 June 2024.  Applicants that are successful at the Expression of Interest stage will be invited to submit a Full Application.  The stage opens on Monday 8 July 2024 and has a deadline for applications of Friday 13 September 2024.

Successful applicants are expected to be notified by the start of December 2024.

The Hubbub Foundation has scheduled a free-to-attend Question and Answer webinar on Tuesday 4 June 2024 between 11:00am and 11:45am for agencies interested in applying.  Registration can be made at this LINK to Zoom.
