Coles-Medlock Foundation

Grants, usually of between £5,000 and £10,000, are available to UK registered charities and their international partners for projects in the developing world in the areas of disability, financial support, ill-health, women and girls and young people.

Bath, Somerset, family-based the Coles-Medlock Foundation supports UK registered charities working exclusively in the developing world in the areas of:

  • Disability.
  • Financial need.
  • Ill-health, and
  • Young people.

A key focus of the Foundation is alleviating the impact of extreme poverty throughout the developing world through sustainable food provision, improved infrastructure, healthcare and education and independent financial progress.  Please note that the Foundation does not make grants to UK registered charities for services or activities that take place within the United Kingdom.

The majority of grants awarded are between £5,000 and £10,000 with the occasional lower and higher award.

The majority of grants made tend to be in the area of international development and the alleviation of poverty.  Recently the Foundation has been more specifically focused on girl’s education and female empowerment, especially for new charities that have received a donation for the first time.

Where appropriate, grant awards can be split over 5 years.

When assessing potential grants, the Foundation looks for the applicants to address the following points:

  • What is the need for the work that they are doing; how and why this need is not currently being met?
  • How the organisation intends to address that need?
  • The impact the work will have both in terms of numbers of people helped and the improvement to those peoples’ lives both now and in the future.
  • What plans and procedures are in place for both qualitative and quantitative impact reporting?
  • A forecast budget for the work to demonstrate the short term and long term sustainability, and
  • The last annual report and accounts of the charity.

Further information, guidance, frequently asked questions (FAQs) and an online application form can be found on the Foundation’s website.

Applications may be made at any time and are reviewed by the Foundation every 3 months.
