The Big Bike Revival Grants Programme - Summer 2024 Round

Grants of up to £3,500 are available to a range of not-for-profit and charitably inclined organisations in England for projects that support people returning to cycling, starting as complete beginners, and people who do not cycle regularly.

The grant scheme seeks to support people returning to cycling, starting as complete beginners, and other people who do not cycle regularly.  This includes reaching new people, including groups who are underrepresented in cycling or face challenges and perceived barriers to cycling, such as:

  • Armed Forces veterans.
  • People not meeting physical activity guidelines.
  • People on low incomes.
  • People who identify as belonging to an ethnic minority group.
  • People with perceived barriers to cycling.
  • Refugees and Asylum Seekers, and
  • Women.

The programme will support events and activities that use the ‘fix-learn-ride’ model to provide sessions on fixing unused or broken bikes, learning sessions such as maintenance workshops or cycle training/upskilling, or offering low mileage-led rides on local routes to build up the confidence of participants.

Cycling UK is offering grants of up to £3,500 (this was £2,500 in previous rounds of the programme) for voluntary and community cycle groups across England to deliver projects and activities that:

  • Encourage people to cycle more often.
  • Encourage people who don't cycle to cycle.
  • Improve the perception of cycling safety, and
  • Increase short cycling trips.

Grants can be used for:

  • Costs associated with repairing and maintaining bikes, such as brake pads, inner tubes, cables, lubricant, or small parts.
  • Equipment such as bikes, locks, helmets, and pumps.
  • Hiring equipment such as cones or bikes.
  • Instructors to lead bike rides.
  • Other costs associated with the delivery of an event.
  • Participant items that incentivise participants to continue cycling after the event, such as puncture repair kits or local maps.
  • PPE equipment.
  • Promotional materials.
  • Refreshments and transport for volunteers and participants, and/or
  • Venue hires for learning events.

Further information, guidance and an online application form can be found on Cycling UK’s website.  Applications may be made at any time up to the deadline and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis as they arrive with Cycling UK.
