Public Diplomacy Grants Programme

Grants of between $10,000 to $100,000 (currently £7,883 to £78,832.50) are available to a range of UK organisations for projects that strengthen the bilateral ties between the United States and the United Kingdom.

Grants are available to individuals, non-governmental/not-for-profit/civil society organisations, think tanks, government institutions, and academic institutions.

This is an annual grant programme offering between 3 and 30 grant awards (dependent on amounts).

All programs must promote at least one US Embassy priority program area, as detailed below, and include a US element or connection. The Priority Program Areas are:

  1. Shared Values and Interests: activities that promote the US-UK Special Relationship and build people-to-people ties.
  2. Democracy, Open Societies, Equity, and Inclusion: activities that build support for the US-UK alliance and US foreign policy priorities related to open societies and shared democratic values; and/or address transnational challenges such as radicalization, violent extremism, and misinformation and disinformation from non-state and hostile state actors.
  3. Prosperity, Trade, and Investment: activities that expand economic opportunities for youth and underserved populations and/or improve the connections between US and UK businesses, and
  4. Climate Change, Science, and Technology: activities that support cooperation in such areas as climate/environment, sustainability, cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, and STEAM (STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking).

Programs can include US experts, organisations, or institutions in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of US policies and perspectives.  Special consideration will be given to proposals that highlight the diversity of the United States and programs whose experts represent diverse backgrounds.

Examples of projects include (but are not limited to):

  • Academic and professional lectures, seminars, and speaker programs.
  • Artistic and cultural workshops, joint performances, and exhibitions.
  • Professional and academic exchanges and projects, and
  • Professional development workshops and training.

Applications for virtual and in-person speaker programs, seminars, or exchanges are welcomed.  All proposed programs must include a public-facing element, targeting audiences across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

Further information on eligibility and submission requirements can be found on the Embassy’s website.
