Apply for an older person’s bus pass

In England you can get a bus pass for free travel when you reach the female State Pension age, whether you’re a man or a woman.

How to get your bus pass

You must apply online to get your bus pass. You will need to provide a photograph and proof of eligibility when you apply. We will ask you to upload this proof as part of the application process. This means it will need to be a digital file, or a photograph, scan or screenshot of the original document.

What you need

Proof of residence in Bath and North East Somerset

You will need to upload one of the following (dated within the last six months):

  • A Council Tax bill
  • A utility bill
  • A copy of your tenancy agreement
  • A bank statement
  • Evidence of your entitlement to vote in Bath and North East Somerset
If you live on a houseboat

Please upload one of following as evidence of residence:

  • A mooring licence for a site in Bath and North East Somerset
  • Evidence of your entitlement to vote in Bath and North East Somerset
  • A letter from a government department or public body, addressed to you at a PO Box or Poste Restante in Bath and North East Somerset

Proof of identity

Please upload one of the following:

  • Birth certificate or adoption certificate
  • Marriage or divorce certificate
  • Passport
  • Civil partnership or dissolution certificate
  • Valid photo driving licence

A passport photo

Please upload a passport size photograph. The photograph must be all of the following:

  • A close-up photo of the head and shoulders of the person applying
  • In colour
  • No more than six months old
  • Of the person applying only, with no-one else visible

If you need a companion to assist you when travelling

If you need assistance to travel on buses, please upload confirmation of this from a healthcare professional when you apply, stating that you are profoundly frail, or have a disability, and require the assistance of a companion at all times. A companion pass will be considered and issued at our discretion. We reserve the right to change or withdraw it at any time. A companion pass will allow a companion to accompany you free of charge on local buses. Companion entitlement is only valid in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
