How we deal with problems on the road network

Our road network is made up of 1,150km of roads. We regularly send out inspectors to identify faults. When the fault has been identified, we assess the severity, location and available resource before we repair it.

We have provided a brief explanation of how we deal with the most common types of problem. You can expand on each menu heading to read more information.

Road and pavement defects

Road and pavement defects could include potholes, loose covers or broken slabs.

How faults are reported and inspected

Roads are inspected twice a year by Highways Inspectors and subsequently reported via Council Connect or Fix My Street.

How we prioritise work

Repair work is prioritised based on the size, depth, location, and risk associated with the job. Severe cases are treated urgently.

Who is responsible

Our maintenance contractor is Volker Highways.
