In order to run a scrap metal business, you must have a scrap metal licence You can apply for or renew a scrap metal licence by completing this form.

You should apply at least 28 days before you plan to start operating, or before the expiry of your current licence.

You need to pay the £170 application fee before submitting your application. You can pay the fee using our online form

Completing this form should take no more than 10 to 15 minutes of your time.

Get ready to apply

There are two categories of licence you can apply for:

  • Site licence: this may be for multiple sites within the Bath and North East Somerset area
  • Collector's licence: you will need a separate licence from each Council in whose area you wish to collect

Supporting documents

As part of the application, you'll need to provide:

  • DBS basic disclosure certificates for all relevant people

We now require you to show us a hard copy of your DBS certificates. Once you have completed your application, we will contact you to arrange an appointment.

We will process your application or renewal and will be in touch within 7 working days.
