Survey of Adult Carers in England (SACE) Privacy Notice

The purpose of processing

Each year NHS Digital carries out surveys to get feedback from service users. All councils with Adult Social Services responsibilities with an eligible population of at least 150 carers, are required to carry out the Survey of Adult Carers in England biennial survey.

The data collected are sent to NHS Digital. The survey will feed into monitoring of the impact of the national carers strategy and are used as the basis of analyses that are included in national level Official Statistics reports.

Data subjects

Members of the public participating in the Survey of Adult Carers in England (SACE)

Personal data

The following information which was accurate to the best knowledge of the council at the time of developing the sample has been utilised to identify you as eligible to take part in the study:

• Name
• Address
• Contact telephone number
• The fact that an individual has been in receipt of services making them eligible for inclusion in the study or has been identified in a social care record as being a carer for a recipient of those services.

The information that you provide in the questionnaire includes:
Information related to your work as a carer
Your employment status
Ethnicity
Physical and mental wellbeing
Gender
Age

How is it used?

Any personal data that has been submitted will be received by Direct Data Analysis Ltd who are carrying out the survey on behalf of Bath & North East Somerset Council.

We will anonymise the results, so no one can directly identify you, by removing all of your personal details before sharing the information with NHS Digital (the national information and technology organisation supporting health and social care services).

We would only ever contact you regarding your answers if you indicate that there is a risk to your health and safety, or that you are experiencing a serious problem with your care. In this case someone from Adult Social Services will contact you to discuss how you wish to proceed.

Sharing of personal data with external recipients

In some cases, we may share your personal data and feedback with those listed below who may need to help us respond to you.

We may share your personal data with:
Services within the council who may contact you regarding specific safeguarding concerns raised during the completion of the survey.
With law enforcement or other authorities if required by applicable law.

How long is the personal data retained by the Council?

Personal data will only be retained for as long as it is needed for the purpose specified above, for as long as the duration of the project requires it, or as required by applicable law or regulatory requirements.

Councils are required to retain paper copies of the questionnaire until at least the publication of the final report.
