The purpose of processing

The prevention and detection of crime and to assist in providing evidence for civil litigation

Members of the public whose images are caught by the Council’s CCTV cameras in public spaces.

Personal Data

CCTV images from which an individual may be identified.

How is it used?

Provision of evidence to Law Enforcement Authorities, HM Customs, Environmental Agency and insurance companies

Sharing of personal data with External Recipients

Disclosures are made for the purposes of providing evidence to Law Enforcement Authorities, HM Customs, Environmental Agency and insurance companies

CCTV images may be shared with external recipients including:
The police where necessary for law enforcement purposes
Insurance companies for the prevention and detection of fraud
The Environment Agency by official request

CCTV images may also be shared where disclosure of the personal data necessary is necessary for the purpose of, or in connection with, legal proceedings (including prospective legal proceedings) and /or where required by or under any enactment (including the Health and Safety Act).

How long is the personal data retained by the Council?

CCTV images are retained by the Council for 31 days
