Business Rates Privacy Notice

The purpose of processing

To administer National Non Domestic Rates (NNDR or Business Rates) within the Bath and North East Somerset area under s.35 (2) of the Local Government Act 1988. This includes the calculation, billing and collection of business rates

Businesses in the B&NES area
Sole traders in the B&NES area
Corporations in the B&NES area

Name of the liable party and/or business name
Billing or mailing address or forwarding addresses
Contact telephone number
Contact email address
Occupancy, lease or freehold interest information
Company status
Rent receipts
Financial data

How is it used?

Determine who is liable to pay business rates and for what periods
Administer, collect, recover and enforce payment of business rates.
Check if you are eligible for any reliefs or exemptions when calculating the business rates liability.
Comply with legal obligations, for example the prevention and/or detection of crime including fraud.
Contact with you regarding matters that may affect your business rates or statutory obligations and changes that the Council is subject to that may have an impact on your business
Protect public funds
Maintain public safety, mitigating risk of harm and assisting in emergencies.

Where appropriate, deemed necessary or required by law the information we collect will be shared within the Council, Government departments, your representatives and any other agency and contractors for the purposes stated above.

How long is the personal data retained by the Council?

In some instances the amount of Business Rates that are payable can change. Consequently, in order that we are able to reflect these changes and accurately bill accounts we keep all records available to us.
