Community Awards 2024

The Community Awards celebrate the valuable contributions made by individuals and organisations across Bath and North East Somerset.

The purpose of the awards

The aim of the Community Awards is to recognise the positive contributions made by individuals and organisations across Bath and North East Somerset.

When the nominations are in, a panel made up of partners then make the decision based on the criteria of the Awards. 

Our partners for the awards will include:
  • The Student Community Partnership (University of Bath, Bath Spa University & Bath College)
  • Bath Ethnic Minority Senior Citizen Association (BEMSCA)
  • CURO
  • The Third Sector Group (3SG)
  • Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon, and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board (ICB)
  • HCRG Care Group

Categories

The Beryl Dixon Community Leader of the Year

The Beryl Dixon Community Leader Award is designed to acknowledge exceptional leadership within the charitable sector. Named in memory of the late Beryl Dixon MBE, who sadly passed away in 2017. A passionate advocate for Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities, this award recognises individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities in advancing equality and championing the rights of marginalised groups.

Whether they are paid employees or dedicated volunteers, this award seeks to honour those who have made a significant impact in promoting equality and inclusivity within the groups and services they support.

Winners of this category will be selected by the Judging Panel.

Willson Volunteer of the Year

The Willson Volunteer of the Year Award is named after Jenny Willson, a former employee of Bath & North East Somerset who passed away in 2023. Jenny was known for her leadership in promoting health and wellbeing initiatives within the community. The award will acknowledge volunteers who have made an exceptional contribution to the community.

Winners of this category will be selected by the Judging Panel.

Young Volunteer of the Year

The awards will acknowledge young volunteers who have made exceptional contributions to the community.

Winners of this category will be selected by the Judging Panel.

Carer of the Year

This is a chance to recognise individuals who go beyond in caring for children and adults in Bath and North East Somerset. Nominees do not have to be residents of the area, but they must support someone who lives there.

Winners of this category will be selected by the Judging Panel.

Young Carer of the Year

This is a chance to recognise individuals who go beyond in caring for children and adults in Bath and North East Somerset. Nominees do not have to be residents of the area, but they must support someone who lives there.

Winners of this category will be selected by the Judging Panel.

Peter Duppa-Miller Parish Award

The Peter Duppa-Miller Award was established in memory of Peter Duppa-Miller, who passed away in 2015. Peter was a dedicated advocate for rural communities and parishes in the Bath and North East Somerset area. This award aims to acknowledge the commitment and service provided by Town or Parish Councillors within the region.

Winners of this category will be selected by the Judging Panel.

Charity of the Year

The award will be given to a charitable organisation in Bath and North East Somerset that provides outstanding services that support residents and the community of Bath and North East Somerset.

This award will be decided through a public vote.

Volunteer Team of the Year

This award will be given to a volunteer team that have made an exceptional contribution to the community.

This award will be decided through a public vote.

Young Volunteer Team of the Year

The award will be given to a young volunteer team that has made an exceptional contribution to the community.

This award will be decided through a public vote.

Timeline

  • 18 October 2024 - Launch event at the Apex Hotel
  • 31 December 2024 - Nominations close
  • Winter 2025 – Judging Panel for shortlisting the Organisation/Team Awards
  • Winter 2025 – Open public vote for Organisation/Team Awards
  • Winter 2025 – Judging Panel for individual awards 
  • Spring 2025 – Chair Receptions for Individual awards, visits to Team award winners and Parish Liaison

Award presentations

  • The winners of the team and organisation categories will receive a framed certificate which will be presented at a place agreed with the team/organisation of their choice.  The certificate will be presented by the Chair and a partner. 
  • The winner of The Peter Duppa-Miller Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented with a certificate The Chair at the Parish Liaison Meeting. 
  • The individual winners and their nominators will be invited to a small celebration event in the Guildhall and be presented with an Award and certificate for their efforts.  Presentations will be undertaken by the Chair and partners.
