Our priorities

Use this page to understand our priorities in response to the Climate and Ecological Emergencies, and to explore how we're acting on them.

Addressing the Climate Emergency

Our Climate Emergency declaration acknowledges that we need to act on the causes and impacts of climate change to help us reach our goal to become Carbon Neutral by 2030.

Our research on the main sources of carbon emissions has highlighted the following three priority areas:

Buildings

Making buildings more environmentally friendly.

Transport and travel

Enabling more sustainable transport and travel choices.

Renewable energy

Increasing local renewable energy generation.

Addressing the Ecological Emergency

Our declaration of an Ecological Emergency means that we have committed to protect and enhance Bath and North East Somerset’s natural environment and wildlife biodiversity.

We have identified the following four priority areas for local action:

Habitat protection

Using thoughtful planning and building to protect existing plant and animal habitats.

Habitat restoration

Supporting community restoration of valuable natural habitats.

Education

Promoting a better understanding of the importance of our environment and why we should protect it.

Support for biodiversity

Encouraging plant and animal biodiversity throughout our district.

Projects in progress

We have a wide variety of projects happening already to make a difference to local people.
