Council Tax energy rebate

From 1 April 2022, a single £150 Council Tax rebate was available to help with the rise of energy costs. Most households living in properties in Council Tax bands A to D can claim this rebate, even if you receive full or partial Council Tax reductions.

Rebates not claimed by 4.30pm on Friday 16 September 2022 will have the rebate applied to their Council Tax account.

If you have not applied for or received your payment, a credit will be applied to your Council Tax account by the end of September 2022. You can then apply for the rebate using our online form

Alternatively, email CouncilTax@bathnes.gov.uk and provide your bank account number, sort code and account name, or call 01225 47 77 77 (our phone lines are extremely busy so waiting times may be longer than normal). Please have your bank details available.

If you are not eligible for the automatic rebate

We have introduced a discretionary payment scheme for residents who are not eligible for the Council Tax Energy Rebate. If you are struggling to pay your energy bills, you will be able to apply for help if one or more of the following applies to you:

  • You live in a property in Council Tax bands E to H
  • You are not liable for Council Tax, but do pay energy bills

In addition to this, you must also satisfy one of the following conditions:

  • You receive Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Working Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, Income Support, Council Tax Support, Income Related Employment Support Allowance, or Income-based Jobseekers Allowance.
  • You are on a low income (this means combined net household earnings of less than £500 per week
  • A household member receives Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance or Personal Independence Payment.
Warning The discretionary scheme closes on 30 November 2022. We will not make any further awards after that date.

How to apply

Please use our online form to submit your application.

You will be asked to upload a copy or photo of a recent energy bill, bank statement for the account you wish the rebate to be paid into and, if applicable, evidence of you and your partner's earnings and pensions.

*Please do not apply for a discretionary payment if you are eligible for an automatic rebate under the main scheme.
