Cleveland Bridge renovation project

Information for bus users (and parents of students at Ralph Allen School)

There may be delays on bus route X86 throughout the renovation works, and buses will need to divert away from the bridge during the temporary restrictions.

If you are a parent with a child attending Ralph Allen School whose journey to school will be affected, you may want to view the school's dedicated transport information online, or contact them directly to discuss alternative travel options.

For shorter journeys, walking or cycling may offer a simpler and quicker option. We recommend planning your trip in advance, to save time and trouble, and avoid congested roads.

How we will minimise the impact

We will aim to reduce the negative impact of the work on neighbouring residents and businesses in the following ways:

  • The bridge will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists throughout the works, so that it should still be possible to make short local journeys.
  • We have planned for emergency vehicles such as ambulances to be able to use the bridge, even when it is closed to other vehicles.
  • We have agreed with our contractors that working hours will be carefully managed, to limit issues of noise and traffic.
  • The contractor has appointed a local contact to liaise with residents and businesses nearby, so you can raise issues of concern.
  • The contractor will issue a construction traffic management plan which sets out how they will deliver and remove construction materials, the location of welfare facilities for workers, and how the workers will travel to, from and park for the bridge works.

We have drawn up, and will regularly update, our own traffic management plan, which has details of how we will monitor the situation throughout the works.
